A Be production-rate calibration for the Arctic
نویسندگان
چکیده
We present a Baffin Bay Be production-rate calibration derived from glacial deposits in western Greenland and Baffin Island, and test our results against published Be calibration datasets to develop an Arctic Be production rate. Our calibration comprises: (i) Be measurements from moraine boulders linked to a Cdated moraine at Jakobshavn Isfjord in western Greenland, (ii) an independent and previously published Be production rate at Jakobshavn Isfjord and (iii) re-measured Be concentrations from a Baffin Island calibration site that is included in the north-eastern North America dataset. Combined, we calculate a sea-level/high-latitude Be production rate for the Baffin Bay region of 3.96 0.07 atoms g 1 a 1 (Lal/Stone scaling model). After testing the Baffin Bay rate against calibration sites in Norway and north-eastern North America, we calculate a more conservative Arctic production rate of 3.96 0.15 atoms g 1 a . The Baffin Bay and Arctic Be production rates are indistinguishable from the north-eastern North America Be production rate (3.91 0.19 atoms g 1 a ) and yield overall uncertainties of <2–3.7% (1s). These production rates reduce systematic uncertainties in Be-based chronologies of ice-margin change and allow Be-based chronologies to be more confidently compared with high-resolution climate records, such as those from Greenland ice cores. Development and application of a new sensitive spectrophotometric-multivariate calibration method to the simultaneous determination of hydrazine and acetylhydrazine using silver nanoparticles
In this paper, multivariate calibration methods of partial least squares (PLS) and principle component regression (PCR) were investigated in simultaneously determination of hydrazine (HZ) and acetylhydrazine (AHZ). The aforementioned methods are based on formation of the silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) from the reaction of HZ and AHZ with Ag+ ions as oxidizing agent in the presence of citrate ions...
متن کاملCalibration of iridium-192 source by ionization chamber for high dose rate brachytherapy
Background: The effectiveness and safety of brachytherapy treatment is mainly concerned with the calibration of sources and their traceability to internationally accepted Standards. Secondary Standard Dosimetry Laboratory (SSDL) does not offer calibration of ionization chambers with gamma-ray spectrum of high dose rate source 192Ir . This work has been carried out to calibrate the high dose rat...
متن کاملNIOC’s requirements for data processing and interpretation in challenging geological environment
The time for easy oil discovery and production for National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) is over. This means that the oil is no longer discovered in structurally simple, i.e., almost flat environments like south of Khuzestan province (south west of Iran). This comes along with the fact that Iran’s biggest oil reservoirs are in this area, and they are passing half of their life cycle. These giant ...
متن کاملPhysiological and ecological effects of increasing temperature on fish production in lakes of Arctic Alaska
Lake ecosystems in the Arctic are changing rapidly due to climate warming. Lakes are sensitive integrators of climate-induced changes and prominent features across the Arctic landscape, especially in lowland permafrost regions such as the Arctic Coastal Plain of Alaska. Despite many studies on the implications of climate warming, how fish populations will respond to lake changes is uncertain fo...
متن کامل4D geomechanical simulations for field development planning
3D and 4D geomechanical can be time-consuming to build and calibrate. However, once such a model is built, it is relative straightforward to use this model for various field development and management applications. In so doing, the return on the initial investment of time and effort in the creation of a 4D geomechanical model can be substantial. I present a case study where a 4D geomechanical m...
